We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Book Copy Editor to join our editorial team. The ideal candidate will possess exceptional language skills and a keen eye for detail, ensuring that manuscripts are polished, coherent, and ready for publication. The Book Copy Editor will review, revise, and improve manuscripts while adhering to our house style and maintaining the author’s voice.
Responsibilities
Recruiter - Client Based:
Editing and Proofreading: Review manuscripts for grammar, punctuation, spelling, and stylistic consistency. Identify and correct errors in text and formatting.
Content Review: Check for clarity, flow, and coherence, ensuring that the text meets the intended audience's needs and enhances overall readability.
Fact-Checking: Verify facts, references, and citations to maintain accuracy and integrity in the text.
Feedback Collaboration: Provide constructive feedback to authors, suggesting changes that will enhance the quality of the work while respecting the author's voice and intent.
Adherence to Style Guides: Ensure compliance with established style guides (e.g., Chicago Manual of Style, APA, MLA) and house style conventions.
Communication: Collaborate with authors, editors, and other team members to clarify and resolve questions about content changes and editing requests.
Metadata Preparation: Ensure that all necessary metadata for publication is accurate and complete, including summaries, author bios, and keywords.
Deadline Management: Manage editing tasks efficiently to meet publication deadlines while maintaining high-quality standards.
Job Qualifications and Skill Sets
The ideal candidate should have:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism, Communications, or a related field. Additional qualifications in editing or publishing are a plus.
